I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is water still leaking, turn off the tap to the appliance or fixture if you can, or go straight to the main shutoff valve for your property. If you are unable to locate a main valve to turn off, then you could try turning on all the cold taps inside and outside your residence to depressurise the pipework and minimise the leak.

Once that is sorted, give our plumber a call, whatever the day or time is. We will be with you shortly to resolve the problem.

While waiting, clear away any significant items from the area, and mop up any water or position a container to catch the drips. If you have turned the mains water off, switch off the hot water heating as well.
